ON THE CALIFORNIA CAMPAIGN TRAIL '26: NOTES FROM SEAN FORBES
DAY ONE: August 19th, 2025
LOCATION: Long Beach, CA
WEATHER: 81°F (Clear)
It's a very surreal thing to run for Governor. The cliché of looking for an adult in the room to fix this is always in the back of my mind. There's got to be someone who can maybe not fix everything, per se, but at least restore some sense of normal life (as least as I've known it at age 42). Someone who can just come in and say, "This is all a bunch of nonsense; let's all settle down, and you just deal with the everyday BS. I got this."
There has to be someone who can handle this heavy work. I'm not really anything special, except that my B.S. detector is pretty well on point. I don't have daddy issues forcing me to sell my soul to the lowest bidder, and I didn't have a terrible high school experience where I'm desperate for popularity. I just wish for some leadership; I suppose most Californians want that too.
Long Beach, California
But there isn't any adult in the room. Newsom? He's termed out. Yeah, he's ripping on Trump. He's trolling that worthless turd. There's a target-rich environment for taking on Trump—sexual assault, economic mismanagement, gross incompetence, etc., etc.
I'm pretty sure that a house cat given the nuclear codes would be a better Chief Executive because at least it would just sit there, let you take photos, and not make any decisions.
Newsom just had a whole thing about gerrymandering against Republicans as a solution, though he hasn't really done anything to challenge ICE except say, "This is bad," and threaten to withhold tax money from Red States that happily cash the checks and vote in monsters. Cool.
I mean, Newsom does say we should call for a vote to get rid of any congressional collaborator by gerrymandering and replace them with someone who at least won't sign off on fascism. Like voting for a house cat—you can just have them sit there and do nothing, which is better than any Republican. I guess we should just vote for cats. They're photogenic and aren't working to burn your life to the ground, as far as I can tell.
We tried to ask Greens and Peace and Freedom to settle on a plan to rid California of fascism. We didn't hear much back beyond their usual stance—they don't have a real plan like the CNP, except calling for California to be a sanctuary state. As if Trump and his Supreme Court care about constitutionalism, states' rights, due process, or even that the President shouldn't be above the law.
Katie Porter is ahead in the polls at a whopping 18 percent. Kamala just told everyone the system is broken and went home, and Hilton, the MAGA clown, arrived with a grab bag of grifters backing him. The Greens and Peace and Freedom Party couldn't agree on a single candidate, so it's not like stepping out and saying, "Hey, I want to get away from this crap," is somehow splitting the anti-establishment vote.
So I have to run—because I couldn't find an adult in the room. Better than a house cat, though.
